The first race is over, and what did we learn. Over all I feel good about this race. I felt my preparation the week before really paid off, I had a lot left in my legs the last 3 miles or so. I felt my pacing was correct, and I was able to reel some guys in. My back is a little sore still, anyone want to buy a slightly used NRS
Team Gibson did good, 3 of us finished one right after another. Greg had some technical difficulties early on, but despite that was waiting at the end for the rest of us to finish. How long did you guys stay, do you know who won the bike?

Un like you dmars.. I didn't have anything left in my legs. I think that I've dialed in what happened.. I BONKED!
I think that the pre ride zapped the go out of my legs. What was left was just enough to get me to the end. BONK.
I hope to do better the next race. I at least know what its about now (bike racing is about suffering), and it will be on a course that I've ridden on more than just once 30 minutes before.
We stayed for 1 more beer. Rob, sorry I was so rude and didn't offer you one. My mind was out of it obviously. Per the race's web sight, some guy name Joshua won the bike. We kind of thought that Rob would walk away with it, as he had a better chance of winning with the gibson name!
Don't worry about the beer RG... I'm not good enough for the chapagne of beers that you guys had...
I had a little left in me at the end of the race, but was content to finish with you guys in the pack. Take a look at my blog for more details on what happened at the end of the race for me. Still, I'm with Ray, I was wiped out after the race.
Gibson or not, none of the team won the bike. The guy was there when they drew the first name out.
No preride for me next time either. Not until I have enough base built up for the extra effort. More water, no food right before the race, and pass more freely are things I learned from the first race. Oh, and endos into the mud are bad at the time; but great for conversation later over a beer. Thanks for the entertainment Greg.
I'm going to look forward in my schedule to ride Swanson. Does a weekend or week-night work better for you guys?
It was sure nice to meet Team Gibson. Thanks guys!
I just realized that I won't be racing Swanson! :( I have to work that weekend (Annual Meeting time, and we all work all weekend!) Damn.
Rob, it was great to meet you too. You guys did a great job and really represented! Weekends work the best for me!
Harp (Rob's buddy) has some good photos of TEAM GIBSON at the line. Check them here: http://harprider.blogspot.com/2008/04/maskethine-xc-classic.html
Good ride guys. It will be nice to be back on local dirt for the next one.
That rock crossing made me a bit nervous though. I did stall out on the wood just after it on one lap. That cost me a bit of time bacause then I couldn't get going again... doh.
RG just remember that despite the pain, you toughed it out and finished. Somedays its all about survival. This was your first race, so you learned alot.
Pain is the right word for a bike race.
I'm going to prep more for the next (it looks like it will be the 6hr one at Platte, as I have to work during the Swanson race.l)
I find that I want to GET OUT and do it again! Thanks for the encouragement guys!
Great job on the first race RG. You looked like a veteran out there.
Looking forward to Swanson and then the next race, are you guys going to race as a team over the 6 hour marathon? At Swanson, even though RG isn't going to be there, are the two of you going? (Dave and Greg)
I'm willing to be this weekend will be too soft to ride Swanson. What do you guys think about next weekend to meet up and ride for a couple laps? I'm looking at either the 19th or 20th; weather permitting of course.
Thanks Rob.
I think that the 20th works best. Greg works Saturdays normally and I have kid duties in the a.m.'s.
Sunday afternoon?
Im racing swanson Rob I am assuming Greg is too, but you know what they say about assuming. The 20th would be good for me also. Hope you can make it Rob would be good to ride it in a group.
I would rather finish a race totally worn out, and hurting than finish feeling relitivly good. If you are wasted at the end at least you know you gave it your all.
I'll mark the 20th as an afternoon ride with Team Gibson. We can work out the specifics as the time grows nearer.
I may mention something to Ryan as I know he will want to see the course too. Actually, I will mention it to most of the Lincoln group you met at the first race. We all need to have a look at it. If you don't mind, that is. We can keep this ride to ourselves if you want... :)
Bring the possee Rob. I've found its a more fun ride with more riders!
Here are a few pictures from the race if anyone is interested in looking. Good race btw Greg if you hadn't of had to stop because of your chain it might have been neck and neck for us at the end. Thanks for pushing the pace and I look forward to the next race.
