middle of the pack

well I did my best to represent the run of the mill, second rate 35 to 45 yr old cat 3 guy. I came in 9 th out of 15 th. I was right in the meaty part of the curve, not dead last, but not trying to show off either. Linda came in first in the cat 3 women, Good for her !

It was a good race. it was a tight course, so the passing was tough. I ended up playing cat and mouse with a couple of guys toward the end. They would pass me, and I would pass them etc. That went back and forth for a while till passed a one of them while I was going up neverest, and passed another guy about 100 yards from the finish line. Fun race the turn out was good but no hotdogs.

It was good to see Mark M there also.

Moday night ride

There was a nice sized group for the ride last night, I think at one time there was eight of us. The trail was fast and dusty, some of the turns were real powdery and would sometimes feel like you were going to slide out and crash. On the way back home Marc and I stopped over at Paul's for a cold one or two. They sure tasted good.. (thanks Paul)

Its good to have a goal!

I am saving for a new bike. A SS 29r to be exact. The brand is still up in the air as I would like to ride a few. I am digging the Gary Fisher Rig however.... I don't like rootbeer much, but the color is cool on on bike.

You can track my progress via the SmartyPig Widget on the right hand side of the blog ---------->.

Sunday ride

Beer is a great recovery drink. Muscles are a little sore and don't know if I am going to ride the Monday night ride or not yet. Riding with my bro = Priceless

Sunday observations

  1. 65 degrees is a great temp to ride in
  2. riding with the wind is more fun than riding against it.  crosswinds are equally not fun when gusty
  3. 2 bikes together are faster than 1 bike
  4. charge my camera battery - it does not last forever
  5. it takes me 2.5 hours and 1590 calories to ride 35 miles
  6. riding with someone is more fun than riding alone
  7. my family was gracious and let me ride
  8. Greg took one photo, I think I'm not even in the frame!
  9. I had fun.
  10. Beer is a good recovery drink.

M.N.R

It was a great night for a ride, but what night isnt. There was a lot of people out riding Monday night. I always enjoy seeing a bunch of people out riding Traq. We met a new rider who's name I have forgot already .(sorry) But anyway it was his first time out on dirt at Traq.

How about a chance for us all to ride together for one day in June?

I got a call this weekend from a friend - Howie (some of you guys know him). He told me his plan and wanted to know if I and you guys were in for it.

He told me that he was speaking with his father-in-law who lives in Red Oak. His father-in-law pointed out that Red Oak was the first stop town for RAGBRI this year. After further investigation - he saw that it starts in Council Bluffs.

His plan?
Ride the first day of RAGBRI from Council Bluffs to Red Oak. We could have our wifes (who are from Red Oak) drive down and pick us up and haul our bikes back to Omaha. (I can carry at least 4 bikes!) We would ride "unregistered"/free" and SAG ourselves (you've got a back pack don't ya!!!?)

Whatcha think? 60 miles of highway with a couple of buddies and thousands of other people for one day this summer? It may be a few years from now before it starts from our backdoor -
Council Bluffs has hosted RAGBRAI four previous times, in 1974, 1986, 1994 and 2000.

We would ride on Sunday July 18th.

Lets Go! M.N.R

I am going riding tonight, I plan leaving my house at 5:45 and riding up to Bike Masters and then to the trail from there. I Think I will stop at Dmars house and grab him .. Hope to see you all there.

i'm struggeling...

Guys, I think that its safe to assume that I won't be racing much if at all this year.  LIFE is such a busy thing for me now that I have not had time to do anything but take care of what LIFE throws at me.

After working the entire weekend, there is no way that I will be able to defer fathering duties tonight to catch up with the BMCC dirt ride.  That would not be fair for the family - as my wife has shouldered kid duties all weekend - and the kids want dad time and dad wants kids time.

Tuesday I'm supposed to head out to BLACK SHEEP FARMS and meet my vegetable grower.  We've joined their CSA and they require some elbow grease time at the farm .  Tuesday we get to meet them and tour the farm.

Fast forward to Friday - this will be my first day off in 11 days.  I HOPE to ride some singletrack for the first time this year!  In fact, this will be the first time on a bike in over 2 weeks.  The weather will dictate my actions.

Saturday (RACE DAY) - and my daughter has dance @ 10 a.m.  It will be my turn to take her as mom took her last weekend.  I then hope to host a MOM's day dinner for my MOM.

I also  have to MOW one of the days in there.

I'm striking a new mantra - one that's not about stressing that I can't ride my bike, but one about riding my bike when I can.  Please forgive me for not being at the RACEs - its not that I dont' want to come and finish DFL! ; its the other things in LIFE are keeping me busy.  I'll make it when I can, I just not gonna let it bother me anymore.

I know that some of you guys have been down this road before.  Do you have any secrets for getting it all in?  I'd love to know some!

Swanson perpetratin', and Team Gibson representin'

Raced swanson today, it was a great turn out, and a beautiful day. I was glad to see Rob there.

We only did one lap, so It ended up being a sprint the whole way, and I dont sprint well.

It was a good race, but I was very disappointed that cat 3 only did 1 lap, and that they started the marathoners before us so we had to fight past a couple of them. Why not start them after us since we only had 1 lap, and they had 3 hours to try to make up time if they had too.
I ended up with my usual mid pack 12th place (out of 20). All in all it was a good day, too bad rg and greg couldnt make it.
