MAN O WAR update noon 5/30/08

I had lunch with the race organizer - for sure no race on Saturday. They will be checking to see if they can have it on Sunday. There is fear that the trail actually got flooded from the Missouri as it runs right next to it literally in quite a few places!.

If no flooding - there may be a race on Sunday.

skinny tires for me :( No riding sunday :(

Man o War conditions update

From the horse's mouth (or the trail crew that were out there last night!)

I don't think the race will happen if we get any more rain...

Details:

  • The ditch when you're coming back towards the road is FULL OF WATER
  • There are standing puddles in a lot of areas

  • Some of the trail was good (relatively speaking), other parts were really greasy and sticky

As of now, he's got about 10 volunteers so that should be good.

As for racing on Sunday - the amount of rain will dictate. Ted said he'll be checking the trail tomorrow night, but if there's a lot of rain overnight - it won't look good for either day.

Bad news:
If the race does get cancelled, there may be no reschedule. Super hard to coordiante a new date with all involved.

Wanna help a buddy with a MTB Race this weekend?

Ted needs volunteers. Volunteers to help with:

setup
registration
course marshalling (2)
results
tear down

Want to help? I think I heard him say that he'd bring the beverages and that there might be scantly clad women.

wtf man?

I can see it now. The Race is postponed for 1 day due to rain. 1 day postponement means we would be racing on Sunday.
Well, Sunday is currently reserved as a family day. Not just any family day - a go out of town and see the extended family, family day. If the race moves to Sunday - I Can't RACE.
Please be wrong weather man - You are wrong alot when you say its supposed to be sunny!

PSYCOWPATH 4 - MAN O WAR

Well, the weather looks promising (not today, but the rest of the week). Mr. Weatherman said this morning that its supposed to be sunny and nice - not as hot as this last weekend for our race day down by the river.

I intend on racing. Do you? Rumor has it that Rob is supplying the beer, and Greg is bringing his pop up canopy.

I plan on riding 2 more times this week. (I got out on Saturday for 22 miles of skinny tire goodness and am now sporting a great FARMERS TAN!) Lunch time ride, and hopefully a skinny tire jaunt around the lake. What are your pre-race riding plans? Rob are your Lincoln buddies making the trip with you?

new toys for me.

Here are a couple of new toys, some parts for the frame I am going to soon buy. Reba fork, and dt swiss/ xt wheelset.

Platte Photos - can you feel the burn?

I think that TOM took these pics on lap 2 or 3. Recall, he was standing at the top of the first climb into the singletrack.

MAN-O-WAR Monday?

Assmble the possee - lets ride MANOWAR on Monday (or sunday).? Weather permitting of course - the forcast calls for a chance of rain in the 40% range for the next 4 days. Yep - time off for me = rain.

Nonetheless, we need to get over there and ride! Who's with me?

Rob. FLAT... Flat... flat. A few log crossings, a technical rock "hill" and tight twisty single track is what to expect from MANOWAR. It's pretty fun!

Psycowpath Battle Royal - Platte River State Park

Wow, that was fun. I am feeling it today and I only did 3 laps! The course was awesome. I think that ONE DAY, I will make it through the rock garden! That was really the only place that gave me trouble and the only place where I opted to walk it.

I'm glad that we all decided to ride Solo. It was much more fun suffering with buddies. I managed 1 fall, and it wasn't bad at all. Wrong gear on an uphill incline. Slow Motion fall to the left.

The only other problem that I had was during lap 1. Three times, my chain jumped into my frame and I actually had to get off my bike and flip it over to get it back on. It was pointed out to me that it was user error. I cleaned up my shifting and didn't have the issue on any of the other laps.

Other observations:
-I like the commradery of marathon events. It is really cool hanging out with everyone between laps.
-My goal for next year, do 1 more lap than this year.
-I will be staying at the park this fall; Hopefully I'll be on the trail before then!
-I brought my digi cam; I didn't charge its battery (sorry for the lack of pics in this post)
-Dmars is a stud - he pimped his SS
-I like gears - especially here!

The three pics that I took with Rob's camera are here in his post.

My Friday is sweet, how's yours?

I met up with this guy for a power lunch!:

Now, don't let his cool appearance fool you. He's one fast mofo! Have you ever ridden with a guy who's bike broke, and he used it as an excuse to go home, or go slow. Not this Guy! His front fork was SHOT - looked to me as though it was a pogo stick. He still hammered! SS no less.

I caught him once... But that was because he had a phone call!

It was 77 degrees and dusty. We had fun and added a few base miles. Thanks SausageKing!

I can drink a few extra beers tonight and not feel bad as I've already burned the calories!

Sorry Guys!

Its been a busy week for me, thus I haven't had time to update the blog. I am looking forward to riding with you all on Sunday. As of today the weather man is calling for Sun and 80degrees!

Sweet.

Who's bringing the beer, and who's bringing the GU20?

Monday, May 12, 2008

you must first plan

I had lunch with a member of Velo Veloce and we hashed out a plan. It's actually his plan.

Bring your bike to work - head to Tranq over lunch and ride 1 lap. He's pimping his SS; I'm not. We are going to try to make it twice a week.

game on.

Got some in....

I managed 35 minutes on the bike this a.m. Paved! These guys were enjoying the morning like i was!

Sold the bike $200. I now have room for a SS!

friday.

Friday = my first day off in 2 weeks.

Dmars - I will meet you at or a little after 11:30 a.m. in the Bike Masters parking lot. We shall ride our bikes, have fun, and

enjoy the great day. Unlike this cat.

I will be riding my road bike to Maple and back via the W.Papio trail. Maybe I'll see someone I know. I've been scheduled into a pigeon hole. Sorry again Dmars!

Psycowpath #3 Platte River

I had some time to think yesterday a.m. while driving into work. I was pondering the marathon event and the team scenario when it hit me. None of us are planning on winning the race. None of us are heading out there to gain fame and glory, right? So why not just go out there and ride our bikes like we normally would, in a group instead of on a team where I sit, while you ride. I want to ride WITH You.

This is exactly what we did at the MAN-0-War race last year. So, what do you say? I say we all sign up individually, and ride together. Team Gibson in spirit, we all ride together.

Friday?

Hey guess what. I finally have a day off, this Friday. I'm going to ride my bike. (note: I have not checked the weather forcast, YET!) I plan to sneak over to Tranq for 2 laps at some point during the day.

We have to take Parker (my son) to the Dr in the afternoon, I think! We also are participating in the neighborhood garage sale in the a.m.

I've got a '98 Specialized Rock Hopper for sale. First 100 takes it - (the BLACK fork on it is worth $100 all by itself!)

Dmars... I think you might be the only guy that can join me? Thoughts?

Swanson is in the Bag

Second race down, and even though team gibson was without its junior member, the rest of us took up the slack. The old guys ( greg, rob and me) finished the same order that we did we for the norfolk race 7, 8 and 9th. The crash award goes to a different rider though. Rob won that award this time for running into a tree, and they tell me it was a spectacular dismount. All kidding aside, I hope you are not too sore Rob. Wish you could have made it Ray, we will see you next time

you boys riding bikes this weekend?

Not much rain lastnight, some spotty showers today? RACE on!?
