Trainer rides are what the Magic eight ball is saying. Hopefully, April showers do bring may flowers.
on a side note: I find myself thinking about a SS 29er. Budget(and wife!) won't allow 2 bikes to be purchased in the same year (I didn't ask, but I don't have to). The good news, I think that will be the next bike that I buy. Now, I just have to find the brand!

No way I'm converting guys. Sorry, but SS doesn't even sound fun to me unless it would be on the paved bike trails. A 29er... maybe, but I'm still not convinced yet. I'm happy with what I have. And seriously, my wife would have a cow if I told her I wanted another bike after what she spent on the first one. I would have a better chance getting a BMW M3 convertible than a new bike.
Ray, imho 29 ss is the way to go. What made you decide you wanted one? I warn you it is addictive You may soon want a 29 geared like I do. Rob, I didnt think I would like a ss either, but now I love riding mine. I like it more than my geared bike. I may have to work a bit more, but It is just pure fun no thinking just ride.
dmars, I honestly think that its you guys. I recall the days as a kid, with my Mongoose. One brake lever and no kick stand. I rode that bike everywhere. Yep, that means that you had to stand up riding up a hill. Yep, that meant that sometimes you had to push. But man, those times were fun.
Now that I'm more comfortable on my bike, I think that those times can be had again with a SS. 29er has bigger tires, bigger tires = faster bike!
I recall last year telling Greg that he was crazy to ride a SS. I think that I get it now!

When I rode gears, I shifted a lot to keep my cadence in a narrow sweet spot. I rarely got out of my seat too. SS changes both of those for the better, imo. As long as you don't miss going your fastest on the flats, SS is fun, though your legs will be upset with your decision for a while!
Different bikes ride differently, frame material being one factor. The scandium Niner can be built up quick and light. The steel Marin rides and looks sweet with the hexagon tubing. We also have the Felt solo to experience the aluminum side. Take advantage of the Bike Masters demo program. You may find not much difference or that you really prefer one frame material or component spec over the others.
