Sunday Ride

Made it out for an early afternoon ride around the hood. I found some sections of trails not plowed thru Standing bear lake. They were fun riding on. Wish I could have made the group ride downtown. Sounds like you guys ran into some snowy trails too, anyway I am happy I got some time on the bike outdoors. Sure beats the trainer................................................................

Hooked up with Paul for some riding down at the usual Sunday spot. Did see a few other people getting some ride time in . The North wind was a bit cool, but still had a good time. Maybe I will catch ya at the Monday night ride........

Well made it out again Yesterday. I really like riding in the cooler temps, it feels really refreshing. I did see a group of three spinning out some laps. I hope the rain and snow stays away tonight so we can get ride in.

Skinny tire Sunday

I ventured out on Sunday on one of Nebraska's busiest roads. F st to 204th. I planned on staying on 204th until I got to the interstate, but the shoulder ended right before Gretna and I wasn't too confident carrying on. I turned back and enjoyed the hills before making it home. Road 1 hour; ~15 hilly miles.

Sunday Ride

I got out yesterday for a 22 mile ride with my neighbor Rich. Earlier this year he bought a road bike (top of the line bike for its day- it has downtube shifters) from a workmate and only has logged 2 rides and a total of 9 miles.

I took him up the West Papio to Maple St. He had never been on that trail and I think was happy to see it and know that its so close to our house. Rich is a runner so had no problems at all keeping up and beating my 'haven't been on my bike for 3 weeks' fitness.

I think I have a new Sunday riding buddy. Riding buddies are great as they push you to ride when you may have waivered. I snapped a pic yesterday, but the camera is still in my garage next to my spent water bottles.

the weatherman....

The weather or lack there of screwed my Sunday riding. I had to make the call on the Corporate Cycling Challenge @ 6:30 a.m. yesterday. It had just finished down pouring and the radar looked as though we were going to get it again in an hour or two. Big storm between Lincoln and Omaha.

I called my riding partners - folks from work and my neighbor. We all decided that riding wet roads, and then a great possibility of getting drenched was enough to have us stay home.

I proceeded to have a cup of coffee and read the paper. A few sprinkles and clouds later and I was regretting that I did not go and ride. I venture to guess that it would have been a perfect morning to ride once the roads were dry.

lesson learned: I now have been burned twice by technology - I look at the animated radar map and make the "NO ride" call. I need to buy a rain cape.

Sunday observations

1. 65 degrees is a great temp to ride in
2. riding with the wind is more fun than riding against it.  crosswinds are equally not fun when gusty
3. 2 bikes together are faster than 1 bike
4. charge my camera battery - it does not last forever
5. it takes me 2.5 hours and 1590 calories to ride 35 miles
6. riding with someone is more fun than riding alone
7. my family was gracious and let me ride
8. Greg took one photo, I think I'm not even in the frame!
9. I had fun.
10. Beer is a good recovery drink.

Exploration

Went for a ride down to TP to see how much work the trail council did on Saturday. This was the first time I have been down there since the snow melted. Wow I couldn't believe how much the trail eroded and how much dirt was being moved around on the south hill. All I thought was, what a mess. The trail crew did a great job on the reroutes and the water bumps. I ran into Chris doing some whacking and some other people out riding. I did not ride all the trail so I don't know what shape the rest of it is. Rode back up to SBL and rode some horse trails and headed home. There is a trail day this Sunday From 12:00 to 4:00 to get the trail back into good riding shape, I plan to be there to help.

Sunday 65 degrees

I am going to ride the West Papio tomorrow. Zorinsky to Standing Bear and back. I'll bet I'll be on the trail around 1:30. Skinny tires and a Bike Masters Jersey. Maybe we can hook up? It's been over a week since I've been on the bike, so this will be a 'get reacquainted' ride 20+ miles.

Sunday, I got out... did you?

I made it out for a 10 mile ride around the lake. It was just a few degrees colder than I liked, but made a go of it anyway. 432 calories; ~10 miles; Fresh air!

Oh, and I broke my glasses again. I guess its time for a new pair as the Gorilla glue didn't even hold up!

I'll bet some of you guys get out and ride today. 60... wintry mix manana! I'm on the trainer tonight.

Sunday ride

Well I made it out for a short ride Sunday. Rode west on state and found a nature reserve. I never new that place was there. I rode down the road and found a old farm house and some out buildings, pretty cool. Well anyway I had a great time.

Well I made it out for a Sunday ride, man it felt good riding out side again. I am ready for the warmer weather.

OOO Yaaaa

Man, it was sweet ride yesterday. Very little wind and 50 degrees. There was a lot of people out enjoying the trail. I hope the weather stays nice like this for a while.

Let's go for a ride Sunday afternoon, as of now I have the green light. We can hit the normal spot or go for a short road trip. If muddy we can always ride the hills North of town.

Sunday @ the lake

As I noted in my comment on Greg's post. I was FINALLY able to get out on my bike this weekend. The weather was awsome - my conditioning.... well, that's another story. I rode the skinny bike around zorinsky. There were quite a few folks out enjoying the weather. 1 lap around the lake and I was shot. The 6 sick days took any cycling fitness that I had left out of me. I'll have to work to get some of it back before the snow falls!

I guess I'll hit the treadmill tonight - I've been enjoying a bit too much of my daughters trick-or-treat goodies!

S is for SWANSON & Sunday!

The start time was a 'little in question'. Although I will defend my self and tell those that didn't read the sunday post below to read it again.

Sunday was full of flats, stumps, blood, fun, friends, flats and NO guitar heros! It starts like this. I filled my tires to 40psi prior to loading my bike into the rack. All was fine until I showed up @ 1:05 p.m. and went to take my bike off the rack and had a rear flat.

No sweat, I had a spare tube in my saddle bag. Got the tire out and the Sausage King manhandled the rubber (no levers needed)! He also had a Floor Pump in his ride. Talk about a guy that you want to go and ride with (albeit the valve on the pump was shot - but it was waaaay better than my hand pump from my bag!). Anyway, we put some air in my 'BRAND NEW' spare (ok I was carrying it around in my bag for a month or two) only to find out that it had a whole in it. CRAP.

I procedded to ask if anyone had an extra tube. No fear, the KING had one and promptly dug it out of his bag. Guess what, yep, it would not hold air either. It had a whole in just about the same place. Luckily Howie had a patch kit. I took two patches (Thanks HOWIE) and repaired both tubes. That way I'd have a spare again if needed. Ok, tire fixed, holding air - We're off!

All was good for me until the "ravine" Crewcabrob knows this spot from the first time he rode it. I proceeded to take the wrong line with ends in a stump. Somehow I cut my right thigh in the fall - it must have caught a zip tie ?? We finished the lap and heading for a second.

It was a fun lap. After the second lap we all headed home. My last flat came as I was unloading my bike in the garage. It either: a. is leaking from the patch; b. the rubber has a thorn that no one could feel, c. Bad Karma to ray today?

Riders not present: The guitar heros? ( I did tell the KING that they could take off when I saw that I had a flat. Maybe they took that as a que? I'm glad that the king and my boys decided to stick around, otherwise I would have still been sitting there until someone came back to patch me up!)

Just another windy Sunday.

Nebraska weather is pretty cruel to us 9 to 5 ers. I mean it can be sunny, calm and beautiful during the week only to turn sour on the weekend. Although this weekend wasn't a bust by any means, it was considered one as:

• Too muddy to ride dirt
• No riding with Friends - team gibson and gibson racing plans canceled - rain!
• i forgot about the sunscreen (its either sunburn on my arms and neck or a wicked case of wind burn!)

I was able to make it into the yard and be productive, so that was good. I need to source and have 5 cubic yards of mulch delivered this week sometime. Guess what I'll be doing come Saturday?

The forecast calls for rain tonight, and then rain/T storms on Thursday/Friday. Will it be too muddy to ride dirt this weekend?

I made it out for the 20 mile West Papio loop. This time the wind pushed me North and killed me South. There were a lot of people out enjoying the sun as the wind was gusting to 35 mph. Here are a couple of pics from the ride:
